Saturday, December 19, 2009 - During a snow storm that blanketed the entire state of New Jersey, Monroe Twp. Volunteer Fire Company #1 was doing more than just shoveling out.
At approximately 11pm on Saturday, December 19th; Station 51 was dispatched to The Reserve off Matchaponix Road for a car fire. Due to an in house stand-by with the help of several members; Engine 51-3, led by Lt. Steinhauser and a crew of four, was in service within minutes despite over nine inches of snow already on the ground. Deputy Chief Kivet arrived on scene, as well as Chief Pipero, and reported a fully involved car fire with exposure to the "D" side as the initial size-up. Command ordered 51-3 to hit the hydrant and put the front 1 3/4" jump line into service. Engineer Boyce charged the line to FF Zdrodowski and FF Siemon and had knocked down the bulk of the fire within minutes; from help of the forcible entry team (FF Ivins/ LT. Steinhauser) the car was fully extinguished and overhauled. Squad 51-2 also had arrived on location to assist the suppression efforts. Station 51 made quick work and returned back in quarters just under an hour to continue the in-house stand-by.
The fire is under investigation by MTVFC1 Fire Official Zih.
