Monday, April 12, 2010 - On Monday, April 12th at approximately 9:30 in the morning the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Company along with stations 23A, 23B, and 57 were dispatched to the house across from 25 Lalia for a house on fire. Units from all four stations were in service just minutes after dispatch. Engine 23-5 (Central Monroe) arrived on location first and reported a 2 ½ story single family with fire showing from the Alpha side. Squad 51 (Lt. Steinhauser) arrived about a minute after that and assumed command. Crews from both engines stretched handlines and began to attack the fire on the exterior of the house. Engine 23-7 (Central Monroe) arrived and along with the Squads crew performed a primary search of the residence which was negative and began to check for extension on division two. Lt. Frailer (23-7) advised command that he had fire in the attic and was going to need manpower and hooks to mitigate the situation. He also requested vertical ventilation be performed on the alpha side. Command advised Tower 57 to take the front of the house and put the ladder to roof. Chief 57 and Captain 51 arrived and took over command and operations respectively. Crews worked tirelessly on division two to bring the fire under control. The fire was placed under control about 50 minutes after dispatch. Units remained on location until 13:00 while the investigation was being completed.
